The Photography Contest

In 2008, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, The Protection Project launched The Human Rights Photography Contest open to professional and amateur photographers who have taken captivating images relating to some of the most pressing contemporary human rights issues, especially those related to The Protection Project’s work. The contest is open to anyone who wishes to contribute their artistic perspective on the international struggle for human rights. The first prize is awarded to the photographer who best captures in an image the current struggles for international human rights. The winning picture receive a financial award and the photo is selected for usage in The Protection Project’s Publications.

Photography Contest 2012 – Requirements

 

Past Best Photograph

  • Best Photograph 2008 - The picture was taken by Mr. Gautam Pandei, an Indian citizen, and it depicts the desperate condition of street children forced to beg and collect garbage from the streets of New Delhi.
  • Best Photograph 2010 - The picture was taken by Mr. Sebastian Meyer, a US citizen, in Northern Iraq and it depicts the struggle of the Internally Displaced Kurds in Northern Iraq, who, under the Saddam regime, were often forced to flee their home and seek shelter in provisional refugee camps along the borders.
