The program also utilizes private attorneys for pro bono assistance in particularly complex and compelling cases. Clients were assisted with removal (deportation) relief, asylum issues, visa processing and in particular, pursuing their rights under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Through VAWA, women can self-petition for immigration relief without having to rely on the cooperation of an abusive spouse. The Immigration Program works hand in hand with the Clinic's Domestic Violence Program to use VAWA to assist those who are truly the most vulnerable among us.
